Meet Mikaila
Hello! I’m Mikaila, the heart and lens behind Sailor + Sage. Born and raised in the beautiful PNW, I’ve always been inspired by the soft light and natural textures of our corner of the world. Today, I live in Bonney Lake with my husband and our three kids—Mason, Dawson, and Sailor—who are the true inspiration for everything I do.
My journey into full-time photography began in 2019 while I was still working in the medical field. I spent two years balancing both worlds, dedicating every weekend to capturing stories for amazing families before taking the leap to go full-time in 2021. I wake up every day beyond grateful that I get to document your most life-changing moments for a living.
The Story Behind the Name
People often ask how I came up with Sailor + Sage. When I rebranded in 2023, I wanted a name that symbolized my children but felt like a brand of its own.
Sailor
My daughter’s name is Sailor, and I’ve always loved how it feels both strong and unique.
Sage
This represents my boys. My oldest has bright blue eyes, and my second has dark hair, brown eyes, and olive skin. I always dressed them in blue and green, respectively. When you mix those two colors, you get Sage.

I have a deep love for the ocean, animals, especially sharks, and the crisp air of fall.
Daily Joys
Quick Target runs, a fresh cup of coffee, and anything Disney. My favorite color is pink!
Style & Soul
I love the art of tattoos, the joy of dancing, and the pure heavenliness of babies. Plus, Christmas is my all-time favorite holiday!
Why I Do What I Do
As a mother of three, I see how quickly each stage passes—the newborn days, the small details, and the moments that shift before you realize it.
I’m drawn to what often goes unnoticed, the way a baby settles in your arms or the natural energy of your child at play. These are the moments that define your family as it is right now.
My goal is to create images you’ll return to, not just store away. A space where your family can simply be, and the result reflects something real, familiar, and lasting.
